Dr. Weijia Yang is currently an associate professor at the State Key Laboratory of Water Resources Engineering and Management in Wuhan University, serving as the deputy director of the Institute of Comprehensive Water Resources Dispatching, and the director of Pumped Storage Experimental Base. He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Wuhan University, and obtained his Ph.D. degree in 2017 at Department of Engineering Sciences, Uppsala University, Sweden.

He has been approved as a member of the National Talent Plan in China, and the Outstanding Youth Fund Project and the Talent Plan Project in Hubei Province, China. He is also a member of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) TC4 (Hydraulic Machinery Committee) Working Group, an editorial board member of three JCR journals including Springer Nature's "Energy, Ecology and Environment", and a committee member of the Overseas Branch of the China Society of Hydropower Engineering.

       He mainly studies dynamics and control of hydraulic-mechanical-electrical coupling systems; detailed research interests include large hydropower plants, variable-speed pumped storage technology, hydro-wind-solar-storage hybrid systems, etc. He obtained 12 invention patents, published 1 book by Springer Nature and over 100 scientific research papers, with over 40 papers published as the first or corresponding author in international journals such as Nature Communications. He led more than 20 research projects supported by institutions such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), and R&D funds from various enterprises.

       He won the Young Researcher Award of the International Hydropower Association, the “Springer theses - the best of the best” awarded by the Springer Nature publisher, the first prize of Hydropower Science and Technology Award by the China Society for Hydropower Engineering, etc.
