Focusing on the innovation of functional design methods and techniques for natural bio-polymers, Professor Zhao has explored their sustainable development and application in building eco-friendly smart materials and devices, and made groundbreaking achievements in in-situ modification, multi-dimensional assembly and processing, and new function exploration of pollen biomass resources. Research results have been published in internationally renowned journals such as PNAS (2 papers), Advanced Materials (2 papers), Science Advances, and 2 international PCT invention patents have been applied. The research results have been successively reported by internationally renowned academic journals such as the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) EurekAlert!, the American Chemical Society Chemical & Engineering News (C&EN), and the Royal Society of Australia COSMOS, and were also featured in a documentary by Singapore's Asian News Channel (CNA) as a highlight of biomass intelligence innovation, titled "Why It Matters - S5E5: Nature To The Rescue!"
