陶然，武汉大学遥感信息工程学院教授，博导，国家级青年人才计划入选者。回国前曾任美国南佛罗里达大学长聘副教授、美国地理学家协会Cyberinfrastructure分会主席、美国自然科学基金NSF研究项目负责人和评审专家等职务。陶博士长期致力于空间数据科学中地理流大数据的基础理论与领域应用相关研究，在国际上率先发展了一套较为完善的地理流时空分析、挖掘与建模的方法体系，包括新的地理流空间测度的方法、探索式空间分析方法和空间交互模型。提升了地理流大数据在防疫抗灾、智慧出行、城市与区域规划等重要领域的应用水平。此外，陶博士从经典的空间统计理论出发，提出了一系列地理空间人工智(GeoAI)的新算法与模型，致力于解决当前方法可解释性不够、泛化能力不强、缺乏理论根基等问题。

研究方向：地理信息科学、地理空间人工智能、空间统计模型与方法、大数据时空分析与挖掘、人类移动性、地图学与空间数据可视化、大模型与生成式AI、交通地理、城市地理、健康地理。详见科学研究页面。
