Welcome to Liu Lab!
The Liu Lab is a multidisciplinary research group dedicated to developing innovative chemical biology tools and integrating them with high-throughput sequencing technologies to precisely decode chemical modifications in nucleic acids. Our goal is to provide new solutions for the early diagnosis of major diseases.
Our research focuses on three main directions:
1. Development of new chemical labeling tools
We investigate reaction mechanisms in depth and combine mechanistic studies with theoretical calculations to rationally design efficient and selective chemical biology probes for the precise recognition of key modifications in DNA and RNA.
2. Establishment of new high-throughput sequencing technologies
We integrate original chemical labeling strategies with molecular biology techniques to establish innovative high-throughput sequencing workflows. By avoiding DNA damage associated with conventional methods, our approaches enable genome-wide mapping of nucleic acid modifications with single-base resolution, high signal-to-noise ratio, and high accuracy from low-input samples.
3. Exploration of biomedical applications and biomarkers
We apply these technologies to low-abundance clinical samples, including cell-free DNA (cfDNA), extracellular vesicles (EVs), and single cells. By profiling epigenetic modification signatures, we aim to discover biomarkers associated with cancer and other major diseases, supporting early diagnosis and precision medicine.
