Dong Zhang, Ph.D., received his bachelor's degree and master's degree in electronics from the Department of Radio Information Engineering of Wuhan University in 1985 and 1988, and his Ph.D. in communication and information systems from the National Multimedia Software Engineering Center of Wuhan University in 2008. After graduating with a master's degree in 1988, he stayed on as a faculty member and successively served as a teaching assistant, lecturer, associate professor and professor in the Department of Radio Information Engineering, the Department of Space Physics and Electronic Engineering, the School of Physics and Electronic Information, and the School of Physics and Technology of Wuhan University.
Zhang began to study digital image processing theory and perform the research and development of related technologies during his postgraduate study for the mater's degree, and then presided over the design of a leading digital subtraction angiography system with independent intellectual property in China at that time. Since then, he has been engaged in teaching and scientific research in the theory and technology of signal processing (especially image processing), and have a solid theoretical foundation and rich application experience in various traditional algorithms and emerging machine learning methods. At present, the stable research application areas are mainly in two aspects: The first is medical images, including X-ray, ultrasound, MRI and CT images, for enhancement, target segmentation, detection, classification and reconstruction; The second is the full waveform inversion in geophysical exploration.
