Profile

Dr. Chen Zhao, MD, PhD, is an Associate Chief Physician at Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University . He earned both his MD and PhD at Wuhan University and completed postdoctoral training at he University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where his research has focused on the development of tumor biomarkers and liquid biopsy technologies, with a particular emphasis on tumor-derived extracellular vesicles and the tumor microenvironment. His work is dedicated to advancing translational oncology by developing noninvasive diagnostic platforms for early cancer detection and therapeutic monitoring.

Dr. Zhao has led projects supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Hubei Provincial Natural Science Foundation (Youth Project), and independent research grants from central universities. He has also contributed to two General Projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (ranking 2nd and 6th), a key research and development project of Hubei Province (ranking 2nd), and NIH R01-funded projects in the United States.

As first author or corresponding author, Dr. Zhao has published more than ten SCI-indexed papers, with representative works appearing in Advanced Science, Journal of Experimental & Clinical Cancer Research, and eBioMedicine.

In addition to his clinical and research achievements, Dr. Zhao is actively involved in academic service. He serves as a member of multiple professional committees, including the Youth Committee of the Tumor Nutrition Branch of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association; the Gynecologic Oncology Committee, Youth Expert Committee, and Breast Cancer Committee of the Hubei Clinical Oncology Society; and the Youth Committee of the Lung Cancer Branch of the Hubei Clinical Oncology Society. He is also Secretary-General and Standing Committee Member of the Health Education Expert Committee of the Hubei Clinical Oncology Society.

Dr. Zhao serves as a Guest Editor for Frontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology and as a reviewer for multiple SCI journals, including Computers in Biology and Medicine, Oncology Letters, Medical Teacher, Oxidative Medicine and Cellular Longevity, Experimental and Therapeutic Medicine, Central European Journal of Immunology, and Exploration of Medicine.

• Dr. Zhao serves as a committee member of the Thoracic Tumor Radiotherapy Committee of the China Health Promotion Foundation and the Youth Committee of the Tumor Nutrition Branch of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association. At the provincial level, he is the Secretary-General and Standing Committee Member of the Health Education Expert Committee of the Hubei Clinical Oncology Society, and also serves as a member of the of the society’s Youth Expert Committee, Breast Cancer Committee.
