Abstract:
Polarization singularities in the momentum space of photonic crystal slabs (PCSs), including bound states in the continuum (BICs) and unidirectional guided resonances (UGRs), have typically relied on precise geometric tuning. Ji et al. now report an alternative, flexible strategy to achieve Janus BICs at finite wavevectors and UGRs by exploiting the intrinsic optical anisotropy of materials.
